Robot deployment & insurance

How do I insure my robot?

Start with what your robot does, who works around it and what it would cost if something went wrong.

The robot's purchase price is only part of the picture. You may also need to consider downtime, damage to other property, injury and software or cyber incidents.

Explain how your robot will be used

  • The type of robot, its task and where it will work.
  • Who manufactures, owns, integrates and operates the system.
  • How people interact with the robot, including supervision and operating limits.
  • The cost of interruption, repair and potential damage.

Gather the supporting information

Technical documentation, assessments, maintenance records and robot or incident data help explain the deployment. Your broker or insurer can tell you what they need for the risk and the cover you are considering.

Pioneering insurance for robotics

Through Lloyd’s Lab, we’re working with specialists in the Lloyd’s market to develop insurance products that are fit for purpose for robotics. We’re helping pioneer this emerging market, grounded in how robots are actually deployed and the risks customers face.

NOMOS helps teams work through regulatory questions and organise the evidence. We are developing Sentinel to record how robots operate and what happens around an incident, helping build the evidence that insurance specialists need.

We’d love to work with you to develop this further. We can’t get there without your input: your deployment challenges, insurance needs and real-world experience will help shape products that work for the people using them.

Optimising Technologies does not currently advise on, arrange, sell or provide insurance. This page offers general information, not a policy recommendation or a quotation. Cover, exclusions and availability must be discussed with an appropriately authorised broker or insurer.
